Well-known cruise controls and speed limiters, which were previously sold under the LITE-ON brand, have now been renamed ZEMCO. 1977 founded Zemco was a pioneer in the field of cruise control and automotive electronics. Zemco's success was noticed by the fast-growing Taiwanese electronics manufacturing company LITE-ON, which acquired the company in 1983. all Zemco activities, continuing the production of gear shifters first under the name Zemco and later under the name LITE-ON.
From 2023, LITE-ON devoted itself to the production of electronics for car manufacturers and left the aftermarket. Aftermarket cruise control and limiter products corporatized into an independent global company operating under the revived ZEMCO brand. The products remain the same and are still manufactured by LITE-ON with the same specifications, quality and approvals.
LITE-ON stopped production of the mechanical cruise control in 2019, and after that, there was only one mechanical speed limiter manufacturer in the world that sold its product made in the 90s in limited markets because it lacked approvals for wider sales. Since there is a demand for mechanical cruise control and there are basically no alternative products, ZEMCO is reviving the mechanical cruise control.
The ZEMCO AP500 cruise control is based on the LITE-ON AP500 cruise control produced until 2019, but several updates have been made to it. The main features of ZEMCO AP500 are:
- Electromechanical servo, which, unlike vacuum servo, allows the cruise control to be used on diesel cars as well.
- The travel length of the servo cable was 38 or 45mm on the old model, by changing the included pulley, you can now also choose 18 or 24mm travel length, allowing you to connect the cruise control to the mechanical throttle pedal, which is necessary for cars with idle or full throttle switches or whose electric pedal cannot be fitted with an electric cruise control.
- The servo cable can now be shortened, which facilitates installation and guarantees smoother and long lasting operation of the cruise control.
- The wire connector for the servo installed in the engine compartment is now waterproof.
Cars without a speed signal must be fitted with a speed sensor AA142. On cars without a clutch pedal switch, an additional clutch pedal switch art. AA170 must be installed.
ZEMCO AP500 cruise control price is €380 including VAT.
In addition, the control module must be selected.
